I will be spending Christmas Eve with my husband's family as I have every December 24 since we were married. After years of being trapped in airports or highway rest stops, my siblings and I mostly abandoned our winter get-togethers. This week's weather — and the local forecast for the remainder of the week — is a good reminder of why.
But I will still spend part of the day missing my own family who are scattered in four different cities in three states out East. This day, in particular, was extra special in our family because it was my father's birthday. It still is, of course, but he's no longer with us — making the memories of this double holiday even more bittersweet.
Wishing all of you — especially Nan, Tony, Michael, Kate, Paul, Pat, Scott, Meg, Sarah and Seth — a holiday filled with making new memories and remembering the old ones.
My father, Jack Brazill (right) and his younger brothers, Jerry (left) and Bill (front).
What a handsome group of young men. Your Father was quite dashing in this photograph. I hope these sweet memories keep you warm during this holiday.

This is my 3rd Christmas since moving near my sister, her husband, and my elderly mother. My mother died peacefully at home early this month at the grand old age of 95. It has been too busy a time to fully process the loss. My sister, a nurse, will be working today through Sunday, so it will be a strange time for us. But we are together at this ending of the old way and at the threshold of the new way. Best Christmas wishes to you at this bittersweet time and may 2010 unfold as a rich, rewarding time for us all.

I've given up on traveling to NYC to spend Thanksgiving with my family for the same reason. Have a great holiday, and I hope you can enjoy the coming snow.

That is such a sweet photo! I don't blame you for not wanting to travel at this time of year. I'm lucky, as my whole family and all of my husband's family are all here. Merry Christmas!
