Just about this time last year, I wrote about the work of photographer Gemma Comas. Since that time, she's e-mailed me periodic messages when she posts new work. The other morning I woke to the news that Comas has updated her Web site. I grabbed a cup of coffee and was immediately absorbed in her world. Comas' work is divided into eight categories but I spent my time rooting around four of them: still life, sweets & flowers, food and interiors.
Comas presents her pictures in pairs and her images are lessons in composition and creativity. (Click to enlarge). I love looking at interiors and can never get my fill of them; but I also picked up ideas for garnishing and presenting food and displaying flowers just by looking at Comas' photos. The flowering branches plopped inside a pair of Wellies by the door (above) is just plain genius. And I love the fact that the flowers in the antique cup (below) are not all perfect.
The pair of images below are of interest because — while attractive in and of themselves — they offer clues to the creation of the arrangements in the previous photos. My neighbor just cut some big branches off his magnolia in preparation for painting his house and now I know what to do with them. If you're looking for a shot of inspiration, take a stroll through Comas' site.
I love those boots!
