We're on the brink of remodeling our library/media room and front entrance. Painting is the one job we'll most likely do ourselves. So picking colors for the library walls, the adjacent open entrance hall/stairway and the exterior entrance area is out next big task. I should mention that Mark and I almost came to blows deciding on color choices for our wedding invitation. Thus, over the years, we've learned never to describe colors; always grab a swatch book and point to the color you mean.
I've amassed a pile of clippings from House Beautiful magazine's monthly column on paint colors: two pages of inspiration and education. Each has a theme or specific color focus with paint chip images, along with the name and brand of the paints depicted — which I planned on using to help us pick colors for these space.
Now the brilliant folks at HB have put all those years of columns and swatches together in "500 Favorite Paint Colors," a magazine that I found at the grocery store yesterday. Finally, I can blithely toss all my clippings knowing I have an encyclopedia at hand for a mere $9.99. Kudos to the staff at HB for knowing how much we wanted a portable version of this visual map, guiding us through the fascinating — but no longer frightening — world of color.
I saw that on the magazine rack...I knew I ought to have picked it up! The HB articles with favorite paint swatches is one of my favorites. This design process is going to be interesting to watch with two strong artists in charge;-) gail
