This looks absolutely marvelous! And those trees! I suppose you can't preserve them because they're live, but they would make wonderful keepsakes.
So what was the "cake as I like it"??

Actually the trees are artificial but Sara uses the notions so they will have to be disassembled. The cakes were two: triple gingerbread and an orange custard tart. The gingerbread is a holiday tradition for me but the tart was an experiment and definitely worth repeating.

What a wonderful thing to do . . . such a rich, meaningful way to end the year! And it looks so lovely, too! I especially love the gilded stemware (my grandma's were the same).
