The legendary photographer Milt Rogovin has died at home in Buffalo at age 101. Rogovin turned to photography after his optometric business declined as a result of his being brought in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1957. He began snapping pictures of storefront churches and went on to document social justice issues worldwide through his illuminating photos. His best known book — and my personal favorite — is "Triptychs: Buffalo's Lower West Side Revisited," which follows the same families living in that neighborhood over a period of twenty years. It's a wonderful, moving series and can be seen on his blog.
Rogovin's obituary from The Buffalo News is here.
"Woman with Greens" is an image from Milton Rogovin's series on residents of Buffalo's East Side (1961-63).
When I read 101 and had a blog. You know I had to go look. Great photos. Sad to lose a great artist.

Wow - beautiful photo. I used to do BW darkroom photography. Sorry to hear that the talented Rogovin passed away but 101 is impressive.
I enjoyed the first episode of Downton Abbey too but it was on too late. We are going to rent the rest when it's out on Netflix. As an American married to a Brit I appreciated it the more.
