Today's arrangement features a tulip that's new for me this year: Purpurkroon from Old House Gardens. Alas, I did not make an Id card for these tulips so I don't know much about them — other than the fact they are dramatic and a nice change from the bright colors that are more common in Spring gardens. You only need one to make a statement.
I knew I needed a vase with a small mouth since I only wanted to cut one flower. When I remembered this one by Madison artist Richard Jones, I knew it was a perfect choice. The glossy black reflects the almost black exterior of some of the petals and the red band around the neck is a match for the flower color itself.
Visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden to see what other gardeners have put in a vase today.
A single perfect flower. The dramatic color works great with the vase.

Thanks for all your comment. I must admit I am a vase junkie. Also the cloth is a cotton napkin made in India that I found at Anthropologie.
