Just before it was supposed to rain, I ran out to the garden to cut some stems of Toad Lilies (Tricyrtis) for a Monday bouquet. It seems like every time I look the rabbits have mowed down another clump of them, so I decided I might as well cut them down myself so I could enjoy them indoors.
Given how many plants the bunnies have trashed, I was amazed when I went to put my cuttings in a vase and realized what an abundance of this species I have in my garden.
A couple of stems of an annual Hibiscus with dark purple-brown leaves and some of a white Heuchera round out the arrangement. A lush nod to the fact that we haven't had a frost yet. This is one of the few spots indoors where I can put a larger bouquet though it is a bit difficult to see it clearly with that painting as a backdrop. The arrangement is 29" high (including the vase) and 24" at its widest point (73.66 cm. x 60.96 cm.).

I love the way the toad lilies flounce in your vase and in the garden.

What a luxurious arrangement. Have never seen so many Toad Lilies and you've even been sharing with rabbits--amazing.

Your abundance is enviable. I've tried to grow toad lilies before and they petered out. You inspire me to try again!

Gosh, that is big - quite deceptive as I wouldn't have realised if you hadn't given the dimensions. Yoour toad lilies are lovely and in a way we have all benefitted from the bunnies...;) Thanks for sharing

Your arrangement is airy, lively, and the colors compliment the potted (heuchera?) plant. I've never grown Toad Lilies but this post makes me think that there should be a space for some.

I wish I could grow toad lilies. I've tried and I'm afraid they didn't like my garden at all. I love yours in that vase. Very pretty. Thanks for sharing

I do love toad lilies but it's another of the many plants I've tried which refused to grow even in my former shady, more well-watered garden. The vase picks up the color nicely.

The toad lillies make a fabulous cut flower. I must look into getting some of these, they are so elegant despite their dubious name!

Loree - Sept. 27 - Oct. 3 is typical. Looks good all this coming week.
