I planted this Rhodie — R. yakushimanum 'Yaku Angel' — in 2003 and it was years before it flowered. And now it appears that it flowers every other year. Or at least that's how it is behaving in my garden.
As you can see, it has set buds which means flowers next spring. It is hardy to -20 degrees F and has come through some pretty nasty winters. I don't know what this winter will bring weather-wise, but I am already looking forward to a crop of angelic flowers.
Spring and your rhododendron flowers will be here before we know it!

Peter — To help me get through the winter I always divide it into sections. My first marker is getting to Thanksgiving with no snowfall. So far so good.

Loree — Both my Rhodies have come through dreadful winters with no particular protection other than a little pile of pine needles around their feet. Amazing is right.

OOOooooooo seeing buds for next spring is so exciting. I hope she holds on to those buds throughout winter.
