By this time in the year, I don't have much left in the garden. Even if I did, my decor takes a decided turn towards indoor treasures. I love trolling my basement shelves and cupboards looking to see what I can combine for a late October display.
My bowl of dried honey locust seedpods from our trees is a given at this season. This year I combined it with a flat-bottomed basket that I had forgotten all about, a tiny Raku teapot with a pair of wood-fired stoneware cups and a Japanese wire and paper lantern from the wonderful Indigo store in the Twin Cities.
I bought this bamboo tray (below) for a party Mark and I had to introduce our friends to each other when we got engaged in 1987. It holds a beautifully decorated gourd by Ramona Palzkill of Dodgeville, WI and a Japanese brass container.
The gourd is covered with a detailed drawing of a sunflower. If you lift it up you can hear the dried seeds rattle inside of it. I thought the Japanese box had a similar pumpkin-like feel to it. I looked at it at a local antiques mall for a year before I finally bought it. It wasn't that expensive but at this stage I keep trying not to add more things to our already full house. In this case, I'm glad I succumbed!

Oh I love these, Linda - they are exactly the sort of thing I would buy if I came across them

Very, very nice! It's hard to resist things this lovely. I'm getting better at it, slowly but surely. I should have take coleus cuttings yesterday - they are done for this morning.

Your indoor treasures are always such a delight and you arrange them with admirable style. Love the faces on the wall too!

I cut the last flowers on Friday and made a leafy bouquet on Saturday. But I haven't really gone out to look around and assess the damage.

Happy Halloween to you too. Your display is very autumnal.

Very autumnal here: sunny, windy and the high only in the low 40s.

I read something just this morning about how "things" are out of fashion and minimalist living is the future. I just can't imagine. The joy of, as you say, "trolling my basement shelves and cupboards looking to see what I can combine" just can't be beat in my book. I love what you came up with.

Just came home from visiting a woman who showed me her closet filled with flowers vases — heaven!

A nice idea to change the decorations according to the seasons - all I manage is to bring down the rug to make the room feel more cosy; I'll have to look to see if I have anything else I could use!

A tip to your basement must be a lot of fun! I love that sunflower-decorated gourd, which looks all the more wonderful surrounded by your other treasures.
