Hmmm, out of your pile of books I have only read "Killers of the Flower Moon..." A good read.

Since two were Wisconsin=themed I think they are of less interest to readers elsewhere. Good to hear you liked Flower Moon. I need to get started on it as it is only a two-week loan and the first week is almost over!

Wow, your voracious reading certainly does scream autumn! These all look like great reads.

What's a girl to do when the garden is too wet and too filled with mosquitoes to work outdoors. I do need to clean the oven and the fridge but they are so much less fun than a good book.

Current events have been driving me toward escapist books of late but I've read the Horowitz book, as well as "A Gentleman in Moscow" which I loved. I also enjoyed Towles earlier book, "Rules of Civility".

I hope you'll have drier ground soon. I never even considered the rain-associated mosquito problem (not an issue here) - yikes!

Love your book reviews! Magpie Murders turns out to be in the local library, and I am *on* it...

Surprised to just be learning of Tracy DiSabato-Aust's plant rec book, and (like many of us aging gardeners) increasingly interested in the subject. Off to scour the used book listings.

Happy Reading Linda! I have to read "Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI" for my book club this month. Last year we read "A Gentleman in Moscow" and all but one enjoyed it. I especially liked it. I'm enjoying "Improvement" by Joan Silber this week.

Ooh, thanks for the reviews! I saw The Fall of Wisconsin at a bookstore this week and mumbled, "Well, THAT'LL be depressing. I don't want to read THAT." to the amusement of a passing bookseller. I guess I should give it, and some of the others, a try.

Michelle

I always like your book reviews. I had the same reaction to The Fall of Wisconsin when I heard the author on npr, but perhaps I will give it a try. Losing political moments with such dire consequences are hard to relive. I found reading Clinton's What Happened to be so sad I had to put it down many times. I am interested in earlier WI political history added to the context of the 21st century so will bring myself to explore this one. I'll see if I can check out one of your other suggestions at the same time so my brain has somewhere else to land if it becomes too depressing of a read.

Linda Brazill

I would definitely try to get the Wisconsin book from the library so you can just take it back if it proves too depressing. I decided I would not even try Hillary's book. I want to put it out of my mind.
