We had a big storm Tuesday night and rain again on Wednesday, so I never snapped any photos to share on Garden Bloggers Bloom Day. The main flowers in my garden at the moment are daylilies, but here are a few other plants adding to the show.
Ligularia 'The Rocket' with Carex 'Bowles Golden' in front
Syneilsis aconitifolia aka Shredded Umbrella Plant. Last fall I divided my huge specimen into three and spread them around the garden. It will take them a few years to make a statement again. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the subdued floral production. This is the bud stage which I like more than when they open.
Lilium lancifolium 'Flore Pleno' is a plant that I have a love/hate relationship with. I pulled out most of them last fall but left a few just in case the love proved stronger than the hate! A dramatically large Astilbe taqueria 'Superba' offers a color and texture contrast.
Thalictrum rochebruneanum 'Lavender Mist' is one of a trio; all just starting to open. One of my favorites and one of the stars of the summer garden.
Last fall I planted a pair of oak leaf Hydrangeas, H. quercifolia 'Pee Wee'. Both came through the winter beautifully and are doing very well. I even got a flower! Currently they are about one foot tall and twice as wide. At maturity they will be 4' x 4' which is enough to make a statement without overwhelming the rest of the bed.
That's funny, I don't know what to make of my 'Flore pleno' either. I love it, I hate it, but haven't reached the point of pulling anything up yet.
...but I always love that thalictrum!

Yes, I too have a love/hate relationship with that lily. When it disappears, I miss it. But then it starts appearing in inappropriate places. No manners, I guess.

Thalictrum 'Lavender Mist' is impressive! How tall is it? I've always liked plants in that genus but, as I complain all too often, it doesn't like SoCal. The Ligularia makes a nice statement too, although it's also out of reach. Technically, I can grow Farfugium but it requires more water than I have to offer.

That thalictrum is an amazing plant. I want to try that in my garden. I just don't know where I would plant it. Hmmmmm.... I like those lilies. I wish I could keep them growing in my garden. Isn't that the way of it??
