Wow, you're right, that's a huge difference...what a cool little flower.

I guess what's really important is whether the pollinator likes the flower. However, it is very sweet and I can appreciate your frustration with its shy disposition.

I have a weakness for plants with sprays of down-facing blooms -- epimediums, columbines, thalictrum. Adding Deinanthe caeruleum to the list!

A hilly site makes it easier to situate these plants where the flowers can be approached and appreciated from below. That's the tack I've taken with hellebores.

What a sweet little flower popping out on those big lush leaves. It is a shame that you can't see them without lifting them.
