The area along our back fence is just moist and shady enough to make it the garden bed of choice for self-seeded ferns. The gardener, however, is always trying to keep this area clear of plants in order to weed the garden from the this side and to protect the fence. This flock of ferns suggests they are in control and not the gardener.
I was just cutting back / pulling out a fern that appeared from nowhere several years ago and has spread itself across my courtyard garden. It seems to do well in sun though just this last week some of the fronds started appearing burned though new growth is pushing up. I feel your pain.

A flock of ferns sounds like a good thing to me but then ferns of any kind are a relative rarity here.

A beautiful flock any way you look at it. I would take it.
