We've just had a week of rain: 3.60" (9.14 cm.) to be exact. I couldn't be happier after our very dry August. This is the time of year when it is so critical for northern gardens to get enough moisture to see all our plants through the winter. The ground is a little too squishy to work today, but the rest of the week should be perfect for weeding and doing a last little bit of planting and rearranging.
This Hemerocallis 'Steeple Jackie' suggests how things currently look: seriously droopy and needing deadheading, but loaded with green buds pushing skyward. There is still a lot of life left in the garden. After all, it's still officially summer; at least for a little bit longer.
Squishy ground sounds good to me!
