I planted Brlcamda chinensis 'Freckles' last year and it's about to blossom for the first time any day now. I was initially disappointed that it looked like I was only going to get one flower stalk. Then I looked again at the pattern that the sun revealed.
The flower stem emerges from within a pair of leaves, rather than outside of them. There's nothing more fun than discovering something new in the garden.
Despite the return of warm weather, I took advantage of the summer plant sales earlier in the week. Yesterday I went out at 8 am and got a dozen things in the ground before the heat and humidity made it impossible to keep working. We got .27" of rain later in the day which was a nice bonus for me and the garden.
An interesting plant I've never even heard of.

Cool! It's lovely, and who doesn't like a sprinkling of freckles? I had to look it up (a/k/a "Blackberry Lily" for those of us not well versed in Latin). Even cooler? I can grow it in my zone. Dave says so. A very nice addition to your garden, and quite possibly, to mine. Thank you!

ELIAZABETH —It has great seedpods but I've now been told to be careful or it will seed around too much. These are my first flowers so we'll see what happens.
