The end of winter and the arrival of spring in southern Wisconsin plays out over a number weeks. Late snow is not uncommon, but it's been years since we've had such a whopper of a storm in late March. It set a record; the official city snowfall was 12.5" ( 31.75 cm.).
Based on what was pushing up last Friday, I expected to have my first vase of flowers from my garden this week. Instead I'm staring at this empty beauty sitting on the bookshelves where my garden books live along with crafty supplies.
The snow on the south side of the house is melting quickly given how much had fallen; the north side is still covered in white. The 10-day weather forecast is almost totally rain or light snow with warm temperatures. That should push spring into arriving. I'm more than ready.
What a delightful soft green vase. Love the touch of red! Perfect for a spring bouquet, which is hopefully coming soon.

GINNY — I think gardeners generally fixate on the weather. I certainly do. And it's not like I don't know what spring is like in the Upper Midwest. I have winter projects and some deep housecleaning I kept thinking I'd do over the winter that are still undone. But I want spring. I don't want to be stuck in the house any longer.

I remember March in Madison. Umbrellas, slush and snow, often on the same day. Yuck. I love weather, but March was never my favorite month. It’s not that extreme out here in the PNW and the field daffodils are blooming, but there still are a few days left in the month, so a few weather surprises may still happen!

I wish I could hand off some flowers to you, Linda! Hopefully, you'll enjoy a nice, if slow, warm-up over the next 10 days. We have another cold atmospheric river headed our way. It should arrive overnight but right now the skies are blue and there's not a cloud to be seen.

CHRISTINE — You would think I could just be calm and wait for real spring to get here. But the close it gets, the more anxious i am for it to arrive.

That vase! I love it. I think you deserve a bouquet from the market.
