It's been a sunny and chilly week here and that pattern continues in our 10-day weather forecast. It rained a bit Monday night and turned into wet snow by morning but it quickly melted away. My rain gauge is plastic so it's been put away for winter and I am left guessing about how much moisture the garden actually got.
This weather is typical for this time of year, so I am not complaining after the summer and fall we've experienced with its clear signs of climate change. The Weeping Beech is one of the few trees in the garden still holding its foliage. The color has gone from deep gold when I took the photo last week to a rusty orange.
Mark recently decided what types of photography most interests him and what cameras he wants to use longterm. Thus he sold off a number of cameras, lenses, film developing equipment and more. That was after doing a major clear out of his bookshelves. I caught the bug from him and took two loads of books to our local library sale and a big donation of all kinds of items to St. Vinnie's.
It's a drop in the bucket when we look at all the books and art we own, but it felt freeing and a good way to prepare for a few months mostly spent indoors.
We're going to relatives on the other side of town for Thanksgiving. It's an easy drive and we were assigned an easy dish to bring. So it will be a relaxed holiday. Hope yours is as well.
I have a weakness for weeping trees in general, and weeping beech in particular. A neighbor is growing the purple weeping beech and I gush every time I drive by. The downside: it lacks the extraordinary fall colors your tree is sporting right now!
Thinning out our collections may be difficult but feels good at the end. Have a peaceful thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Linda! I love that last photo, the vase is wonderful. I've got a few clean out and give-away projects planned for the winter months, I'm looking forward to that feeling.

I too have been trying to simplify my life. I've always admired the minimalist esthetic, but it's just not me. I like my books, I like interesting and beautiful things, and I like to see them around me. Thank goodness I live here, where there is no such thing as a basement or an attic. The weeping beech is a show stopper; then again, I don't think there is a weeping variety of any tree that I don't like. There is just something so graceful about them. Not many trees here change color, but the other day I noticed a row on both sides of the road of Liquid Amber (Liquidambar styraciflua). Say what you will about them, but they sure are pretty right now. Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. I wish for you a peaceful slide into Christmas.

A peaceful slide into Christmas, I like that!
I always feel so good after a bit of a "clean-out" and this is a perfect time of year to do it.

Hope you had a happy, warm Thanksgiving. I keep saying I want to get rid of clutter, but always seem to find other priorities. Time to put half an hour or an hour per week into my schedule so that it gets accomplished. It feels good to make progress.

TRACY — It felt so nice making room on my bookshelves that I am going to try to keep at it. I love shopping second hand bookstores and the holidays are a great time to give them my overflow. And hope I don't buy too many new titles.

ELIZABETH — You are so right about loving books and beautiful things. And the best decluttering method is no basement or attic. We bought this property to garden and it is really more house and basement than we needed. And now it is too filled up.
